As a producer, Karan Johar has given quite a few Rs. 100 crore films. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Agneepath, 2 States and even (dubbed Hindi version) Bahubali, which he presented, have hit a century. However, ironically he hadn’t entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club as a director.
Of course his earlier films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham were huge blockbusters on their release and in today’s currency value, these would have been massive. Still, ever since the invention of the century club with Ghajini, there has been a set benchmark for films and Karan couldn’t reach there with My Name Is Khan or Student of the Year.
Well, he has done that now with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which has just gone past the Rs. 100 crore mark. The film collected Rs. 2.35 crore more on Tuesday and the overall collections now stand at Rs. 102.05 crore. The film has managed to score a century in 12 days and considering the fact that it also had a major clash to contend with, this is a good enough feat. Moreover, the film wasn’t aiming at universal audience either and still it has seen continued footfalls this season, which reflects in steady collections.
Next milestone for the film is Housefull 3 [Rs. 109 crore] and that should be surpassed in the coming weekend. That would make Ae Dil Hai Mushkil the fifth highest grosser of the year after Sultan, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, Airlift and Rustom.
