Sunny Deol charged of plagiarism

Sunny Deol is facing controversy again. This time it’s producer Keval Kashyap who charged Deol of blatantly copying his Manoj Kumar starrer Bhagat Singh film Shaheed (1965) and literally remaking it as 23rd March 1931 – Shaheed (2002) starring Bobby Deol as Bhagat Singh. The surprising factor here is that Kashyap’s allegation comes in after more than two years of the Bobby Deol film. But the producer defends that his allegations were overlooked for over two years by the Filmmakers Combine on the basis that similarities are bound to occur on biographies made on historical characters like Bhagat Singh. However Kashyap insists that the 2002 version directed by Guddu Dhanoa is a scene-to-scene remake of his 1965 version and even the publicity design has a similar feel. Kashyup now wants a monetary compensation from Sunny Deol for copyright infringement. Incidentally Kashyap had also planned a remake of Shaheed in 2001 with Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswami in lead role but Sunny Deol persuaded Manoj Kumar to dump the project.
