Curtain rises on G.I.F.A. in Dubai

The curtain rises on the keenly anticipated Global Indian Film Awards in Dubai. Stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Feroz Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Fardeen Khan, Arshad Warsi, Zayed Khan, Amrita Rao, Shakti Kapoor and Suniel Shetty are expected to walk down the red carpet on Thursday, January 27 at Al Wasl Stadium. Accomplished presenters including Gulshan Grover, Diana Hayden, Celina Jaitley and Perizad Zorabian will host the event. There’s talk that Salman Khan will also host the final segment. In an exclusive conversation with this writer, Sameer Khan, V.P., Global Events, revealed that G.I.F.A. would be an annual event and the venue might shift to the other destinations in U.A.E. next year onwards. SALMAN WINS FOOTBALL MATCH Salman Khan and his team won the football match, defeating Sohail Khan’s team by two goals. Salman’s team scored 7 goals, while Sohail’s team scored 5 goals. The VIP stall was packed with celebrities and stars. SRK’S KURTA FETCHES 30,000 DIRHAMS Later in the evening, ORRA – the diamond destination, in an effort to raise funds in aid of Tsunami victims, auctioned the screen clothes of leading actors.
