After receiving great response for the three seasons of 'Satyamev Jayate', the team of the reality chat comes together to form 'Paani Foundation'. It is a Not-For-Profit company, helmed by Satyajit Bhatkal (CEO) and Ms. Reena Dutta (COO) and founded by superstar Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao. The main objective of this foundation is to communicate, impart knowledge and bring about a change in outlook among people at the grass root level about water conservation and watershed management.

Paani Foundation will work in association with the Government of Maharashtra for solving the water crisis in the State of Maharashtra and its first step towards it is the 'Satyamev Jayate Water Cup'. The first edition of the Water Cup will be restricted to three districts and within those three districts, in one taluka each. The talukas include Koregaon Taluka, in Satara District (Western Maharashtra), Warud Taluka, in Amravati District (Vidarbha), Ambajogai Taluka, in Beed District (Marathwada).

A contest will be organized by the Paani Foundation as a part of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup campaign wherein every gram panchayat will be invited to participate in the event. They will also promote this campaign with the help of local and digital media. The Panchayat will nominate five members out of which at least two will be from the younger generation and two women. Paani Foundation will also provide a four day residential training for groups of 30 villagers at a time which will be held in schools located in the nearby area.

The contest will be for a specific time period of 45 days between April 15 and May 31 whereas the training will be provided from March 15 to April 15. After June 1, the contesting villages will be evaluated by experts to see the quantity and quality of watershed management work done as also efforts to conserve water. The first prize is Rs. 50 lacs, second is Rs. 30 lacs and the third prize is Rs. 20 lacs.

The Advisory Board of Paani Foundation consists of some prominent members like Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Sachin Tendulkar, Rajkumar Hirani among others.
