Dishoom has taken better than average opening at the Box Office. Given the kind of buzz that the Rohit Dhawan directed film had managed to create en route its release, a double digit opening was on the cards and anything over that was meant to be bonus. However, looking at the numbers which are around Rs 11.05 crore, one is led to believe that it could have been much better, if not for the rains thwarting plans for many who wanted to give it a dekko. There were massive rains in Gurgaon, Bangalore and Kolkata that led to traffic jams and water-logs, as a result of which almost all shows right till the evening were impacted.
This is the reason why one is led to believe that the film could well have over-performed and gone past the Rs 12.5 crore mark, if not for the unforeseen factors impacting it. Nonetheless, a shortfall of approximately 1.5 crore could well be taken care of over the weekend, once better numbers come in today and tomorrow. The film has got largely good reviews and especially for this genre, which is not quite considered to be critic friendly (considering the cinematic liberties that are countless), Rohit Dhawan has managed fair attention coming his way.
For Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros, this is another double digit start for them after Housefull 3 [Rs 15.2 crore] which was a much bigger film. For Varun Dhawan, this is his seventh straight film to get a good opening at the Box Office and the boy has proved that he has managed a loyal fan following for himself. John Abraham must indeed be happy that after Rocky Handsome, he now has a film that has opened commercially well to give him a reason to smile. Jacqueline Fernandez is continuing to feature in package deals and is getting results as per the choices made.
The film could well have gone past Baaghi [Rs 11.94 crore] if not for the rain and now it would be word of mouth coming into play for Dishoom to surpass the weekend collections [Rs 38.58 crore] of the Tiger Shroff starrer.
