The countdown has begun for the two major Christmas releases - TEES MAAR KHAN and TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO. Will these two films end the dry spell at the box-office? Will the year 2010 conclude on an exhilarating note, like the previous years? Will we feel upbeat when we begin the New Year?
So much is at stake as far as these two films go - the careers, the money, the reputation. The expectations are immense from TEES MAAR KHAN because it teams Farah Khan [riding high on the success of MAIN HOON NA and OM SHANTI OM] and Akshay Kumar for the first time. Akshay hasn't had a good year. HOUSE FULL clicked, but KHATTA MEETHHA and ACTION REPLAYY didn't. The industry feels TEES MAAR KHAN has to deliver, else Akshay, who's on a slippery wicket right now, may slip further. At a point of time, he was competing with SRK. But, over the years and with the passage of time, Aamir, Salman, Ranbir and Ajay have overtaken him in this race.
For Ajay, 2010 has been a great year. Personally and professionally. The only setback was AAKROSH, but ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI and GOLMAAL 3 in particular brought him back in the running. Will his successful sprint continue with TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO, is to be seen.
While the last week's releases have gone completely unnoticed, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, which was released a week earlier, dominated the marketplace with rock-steady collections. The film has been liked immensely and the figures bear testimony to this fact. We often lament that the business doesn't pick up despite a strong word of mouth, since the flow of films is so heavy, but BAND BAAJA BAARAAT has proved an exception.
Besides consolidating Yash Raj's status further, the film has witnessed the resurgence of Anushka Sharma as a super actress and the birth of two supremely talented names - director Maneesh Sharma and lead man Ranveer Singh. Bring out the band and baaja please… it's time to celebrate!
