The income-tax department have conducted raids on several top bollywood stars and directors in Bombay. The raids were targeted at Yash Chopra, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, Karan Johar, Yash Johar, Amrish Puri and Urmila Matondkar on the tip off that their assets were disproportionate to their income. The raid began at 0830 IST, 26th September, with 150 income-tax officials alongwith 60 policemen descending on the offices and houses of these personalities. Most of the stars were not present when the raid took place. At Salman's house, his father Salim and brother Sohail were present. While Salman's flat at Bandra and farm house at Panvel were raided by two different groups of officers, Rani & Urmila's flats at Lokhandwala and Yash Chopra's bungalow at Juhu were also raided. Official said that 16 lockers were sealed after Tuesday's raids. Jewellery, cash, documents and certificates indicating fixed deposits were also recovered. According to unconfirmed sources, the officers have found Rs 12 lakh in cash from Rani Mukherjee's home. Most of the film personalities have switched off their mobile phones and put the telephones off the hook and were not available for comment when contacted by IndiaFM. The operation is likely to continue till Wednesday morning and the details of the raid will be made public anytime after the raid is complete.
