2nd Apsara Awards press conference held

In 2004, as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the Film and TV Producers Guild of India (FPGI) instituted one of the most transparent and credible film awards Apsara, the definitive award for Films and Television. It can be aptly described as an award of the industry, by the industry, for the industry. The press-meet of the 2nd Apsara Awards kick-started on a high note, last evening. Produced by the Film and Television Producers Guild Awards, the mood at the event was amazingly upbeat. Television actress Shweta Salve was the host for the evening and the first speaker was Amit Khanna, President FPGI who said that the competition was going to be tougher this year because the films to be reviewed are much larger in number than the last time. The guest list included a hoard of producers, directors and actors from the film and television industry including Vashu Bhagnani, Mukesh Bhatt, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Dheeraj Kumar, Ravi Chopra and Ramesh Sippy to name a few. One of the biggest attractions of these awards is that the results cannot be influenced or tampered with as they are handled by Price Waterhouse Coopers, the same organization who handle the ballots for the Oscars, Miss Universe and Miss World. No one knows about the results of the awards before the ceremony, not even the jury members. The nominations of the awards will be announced on the 8th of January and the awards are scheduled to be held on 21st January. From last time, the Awards this year promise to be different. These include an even more stringent selection process as well as a new nomination list including more categories. Over the years, the Guild has become the voice of the industry and provides a platform for the film and television producers in promoting and aiding the development of the Indian entertainment industry.
