After Sooryavanshi, Bunty Aur Babli, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Antim: The Final Truth, Milan Luthria directorial Tadap opened in cinema halls across the globe today across 1600 plus screens. According to our tracking sample, the Ahan Shetty-Tara Sutaria starrer has taken a strong start on Day one as estimates suggest opening day figures in the range of approx. Rs 3.90 to 4.30 cr., which is a very good figure a film featuring a debutant, Ahan Shetty alongside a relatively fresh face like Tara Sutaria.
The Sajid Nadiadwala produced intense romantic saga has got the cash registers ringing all across, though in limited numbers, with Mumbai and Bihar being the best faring circuits. Tadap has taken the third biggest start of 2021 after Sooryavanshi and Antim: The Final Truth and has comfortably gone past bigger films like Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Bell Bottom, Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Satyameva Jayate 2. The fact that the opening day biz is just nominally (20% approx.) below Antim: The Final Truth which had an extended presence of a superstar like Salman Khan is a victory in itself for the team of the film.
Tadap has a genre appealing to the youth which has got the audience back in the cinema halls on opening day. According to exhibitors, the auditorium is dominated by the men in mass belts as the trailer and music gave the Kabir Singh vibe. The footfalls were fair in the morning shows and jumped towards the evening and night shows, which is a good sign as films with mass appeal tend to open and then fall flat as the day progresses.
The reports of the film are slightly mixed and hence one will have to keep a close eye on the weekend trend. The opening day in the range of Rs. 4 crore has set the base for a double digital weekend, and it now remains to be seen if it somehow manages to get closer to the Rs. 15 crore mark as that would be a phenomenal result for a film spearheaded by a debutant.
