Shivaay has managed to keep the strike rate of around 10 crore per day intact, what with Rs. 70.41 crore coming in its first week. Considering the fact that the film had opened to the first day numbers of Rs. 10.24 crore, this is a fine number indeed as it gives a good enough platform for the Ajay Devgn film to enter the second week.
In the process, the film has now gone past the lifetime total of many other films:
Shivaay – Rs. 70.41 crore (7 days and still running)
Dishoom – Rs. 70 crore
Pink – Rs. 68 crore
Udta Punjab – Rs. 60 crore
Mohenjo Daro – Rs. 58.5 crore
Out of these, Dishoom and Pink were clean successes, Udta Punjab had scraped through and Mohenjo Daro had failed to rise. Now one waits to see how much further up does Shivaay goes as it would have to compete with the following five films:
Housefull 3 – Rs. 109 crore
Fan – Rs. 85 crore
Baaghi – Rs. 77 crore
Neerja – Rs. 75.65 crore
Kapoor & Sons – Rs. 73.3 crore
Each of the films from Fan to Kapoor & Sons would be a cakewalk and Shivaay would actually top them before the close of second weekend. It would be interesting to see though that how much closer does the challenge turn out to be with Housefull 3. Ideally, Shivaay would be looking at going ahead of Housefull 3 in the final run so that it gets tagged as a good success in the record books of Bollywood.
