Producers Guild hands over Rs. 6.5 crores to P.M.

A delegation led by Guild President Amit Khanna called on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday, October 20 at his residence. The delegation comprised of Manmohan Shetty, Bobby Bedi, Ramesh Sippy, Vashu Bhagnani, Anuradha Prasad, G. Krishnan, Aly Morani, Bunty Walia, Jawahar Goel, Sabbas Joseph, Neeraj Roy, Ajay Vidyasagar amongst others and handed over an amount of Rs. 6,55,41,935 that was collected as part of the Help Telethon, held on February 6 in aid of the Prime Ministers Relief Fund. The Guild acknowledged the support of the entire fraternity and lauded the initiative of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt in helping organize the fund-raising. The Prime Minister thanked Guild and the entertainment industry for their gesture. Later, in a free and frank discussion, the Guild President raised some important issues facing the industry. These included piracy and its impact on the revenues, both of the government and industry and measures that need to be taken to combat it. The Prime Minister was very receptive and immediately announced that he would constitute a high-power committee consisting of representatives of various ministries as well as entertainment industry, which will give its report within three months, so that necessary steps can be taken.
