East meets west

Financier Jhamu Sughand studied the Bengal market during the making of his first Bengali venture SWAPNER DIN and has tied up with Bengal superstar Prosenjit to pump in money into the Rs. 70 crore worth Bengal film industry. SWAPNER DIN is directed by Dasgupta and so is HRIDOYER KATHA alias ‘Dil Ki Baatein’ — a bilingual starring Madhuri Dixit. I want to take my own time to make films. I am concentrating at doing two projects at a time. I am planning to try my hands at exploring the opportunities that lie latent in the regional cinema, says Sughand. The talented Prosenjit holds the record of giving 52 films with the same director, 29 releases in the same year, 6 releases in one week and another record of working with co-actor Ranjit Mallick in 50 films. Says Prosenjit, I met Jhamu-ji during the making of SWAPNER DIN. He was very keen to enter Bengali cinema and wanted to collaborate with someone who knew the industry well. So, here we are. Haranath Chakraborty, Swapan Saha and Anoop Sen Gupta have been signed on by the duo. In Hindi cinema, Jhamu shall be working with Nikhil Advani, Priyadarshan, Vipul Shah and Rajiv Menon. And then there are films like Anurag Kashyap‘s BLACK FRIDAY and CHA CHA CHA by Shiv Subramanyam.
