DP: What designer clothes are you wearing today?
CB: Well, these are my own. But I love a lot of Herve Leger clothing. I like the long flowing bright dresses from South Africa. I like the whole Mediterranean feel and I like to go to these little boutiques shops. I'm always very comfortable in casuals because it's the most comfortable clothing ever. I'm like this hippie child (laughs) that people know me.
DP: Well then, you need to visit Goa. Have you ever been there?
CB: Yes I have heard of Goa but not been there. It's that beach town right? I'm not really a 'rave' person. I love the shacks though. I'm an easy going person as I love the reggae and a relaxed ambience of the beach.
DP: Now that you've come to India, and you'll soon be all over the front pages and billboards on the streets, tell me something - have you been a person who has grown up watching Hollywood movies?
CB: I've definitely grown up watching Hollywood movies. I love Breakfast At Tiffany's. I love Audrey Hepburn. I like the West Side stories. My father was always into his movies and the genres I used to watch is thrillers. My friends think I'm crazy (laughs). Thrillers are my adrenaline rush. I'm a big fan of Hostel, Nightmare On Elm Street, Freddie v/s Jason, etc.
DP: But you laugh so much. I thought you were inspired by comedies too
CB: (laughs) Yes I do love comedies. I like the old comedies though like Twins, My Cousin Vinny, etc.
Devansh Patel (DP): 2010 was your first cover for Playboy?
Candice Boucher (CB): No, but there's much more to me than just being a Playmate. Last year my Guess campaign came out. My first cover for Playboy was six years ago.
DP: And did you meet the man called Hugh Hefner?
CB: No, I'd love to but I did get a beautiful hand written letter from him that I still need to frame (laughs). It's a big moment for me because I received the letter with a signed copy of Playboy. I was supposed to meet Hugh Hefner in L.A. just after my issue came out. Back then I couldn't because he wasn't keeping well. I still haven't managed to meet him though but would love to someday.
DP: Have you been to the 'most talked' about Playboy Mansion?
CB: No I haven't but I'd purely go there just to see the beautiful swimming pool area and those underground caves, etc. I wouldn't really walk around in my bikini like other girls would but would spend a good twenty minutes out there for sure (laughs).
DP: Or you can even bump into Leonardo Di Caprio or Toby Maguire or good ol' Charlie Sheen?
CB: (laughs) Of course Charlie would be there with a cigar hanging out wearing a gown (laughs).
DP: You seem to be pretty adventurous a person
CB: I try to be. I at least try and do something once in my life. Like crawling up mountains and things that people wouldn't normally do. I kind of put it all down to experience especially the whole Playboy thing where everyone just went 'nudity' 'nudity' 'nudity' but that wasn't it. Playboy was one of the best experiences of my life. It was ten days among wild animals and people with guns all around us and we were risking our lives to get these pictures.
DP: The problem is that when you have a beautiful chic in front of you, you tend to forget your questions.
CB: (laughs) I haven't had too many interviews in my career so I wouldn't know which journalist has forgotten his questions (laughs)
DP: And how prepared were you for your Aazaan interviews today?
It really isn't easy being a journalist who photo-edits too. I mean, even though you're at home transcribing the interview of one of the world's most beautiful women on your laptop, the chances are that you'll surely be opening those hot pictures and will keep zooming in and out of it. That's exactly what I did after meeting my delectable 'date' Candice Boucher. She is a tall sexy blonde and believe you me, God has stopped making such hotties now-a-days. In the middle of our conversation, my subconscious self tells me that I'm still in a dream. For all these years, the girl I kept googling was in flesh in front of me. Come on, let's admit it. We're boys for God sake! But as our talk goes into the 40th minute and our black coffees going a tad cold, I realise that it's just not Candice's hot body that I was in awe of. It's that kind of accessible attitude and her ability to reinvent her image that has made Boucher one of the most popular faces in the modelling world and the most successful. Then of course, dating a smart, ambitious woman like Candice Boucher is one of life's greatest challenges and pleasures. My eyes keep staring at how she is tightly holding her coffee mug. For a second you so want to be that 'mug' in her hand. This South African splendour surely knows how to get a man's attention. The Megans, the Biels, the Wildes, the Blakes may come and go with the usual ebb and flow but my fascination with one woman endures - Candice Boucher, this is what I like about you: that you're game and you're good at it and you can try on all these guises without seeming to try too hard. And our 'date' continues...
CB: Aazaan came my way while I was sitting in New York when Roopa text me. I had done a music video with Himesh in Aap Ka Surroor that was directed by Prashant. Ever since then, I have kept in touch with Roopa who also happens to be Prashant's sister and now one of my best friends. Roopa told me about a project that Prashant was likely to direct and whether I'd be interested in taking it up. I didn't get too many details back then (laughs) but I've known Prashant too and he is just fantastic because anything he touches turns to gold.
DP: What about the sand that you touched in the film. Did it turn into gold?
CB: That was magical (laughs). I play a sand artist in Aazaan. We flew down the sand artist and she taught me how to do the art. It's so beautiful to watch her connection with sand. It's so elegant. The way she moves the sand, the way she throws it, etc, but I can't draw the stories that she can. I've learnt a bit because of my role requirement. The sand she uses is special sand from the river bed. She drew the whole Aazaan story in front of us. That was amazing.
DP: Hollywood calling now?
CB: Bollywood is very concentrated on emotions and all. For me Bollywood is very different to a Hollywood movie. Hollywood's more of sex and body and all. It's intense pre-preparation that goes in. I'm not quite ready for Hollywood yet (laughs).
