After last week’s release fading from the box office without a mention, this week we see the release of two films with STREET DANCER 3D and PANGA hitting screens. While the first which is directed by Remo Dsouza and stars Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor is a dance film, the second, is a sports drama starring Kangana Ranaut. But which of the two films will take the lead at the box office window is the question.
Reports suggest that STREET DANCER 3D has opened on a steady note with occupancy rate during morning shows being pegged at 25%. On the other hand, PANGA has opened on a slower note with just 15% occupancy. Given the fact that both films have received positive reviews, it is expected that STREET DANCER 3D that has released across 3700 screens in India will take the lead over PANGA that has released across 1450 screens. Apart from the lower screens count, another factor that will certainly affect the business of PANGA is the fact that the Ajay Devgn – Saif Ali Khan starrer TANHAJI – THE UNSUNG WARRIOR still continues to run in theatres. If that wasn’t all, TANHAJI that has received a tax free status in certain domestic territories is likely to fare better than PANGA at the box office window, especially since occupancy rates in its third week are pegged at 20%.
On the whole, STREET DANCER 3D is expected to do well over the weekend with its opening day seeing business of Rs. 12-15 cr, PANGA on the other hand will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth to post good weekend totals, while its opening day business could be between the Rs. 4-5 cr range.
