The Anurag Singh directorial Kesari that is based on the battle Saragarhi released last week on Holi. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, the film hit 3600 screens in the domestic market. However, despite the hype surrounding the film, Kesari started on a slow note, with morning show recording rather low key footfalls. But, as the day progressed the business of Kesari saw a sharp rise in collections.

Enjoying an extended four day festive weekend Kesari drew in a whopping Rs. 78.07 cr, manging to surpass Akshay’s previous release Gold that had collected Rs. 70.05 cr to become his highest opening weekend grosser. With stellar collections the business of Kesari has fared considerably better than Akshay Kumar’s other releases like Singh Is Bliing that collected Rs. 54.55 cr, Housefull 3 that collected Rs. 53.31 cr, Brothers that collected Rs. 52.08 cr, Toilet - Ek Prem Katha that collected Rs. 51.45 cr, Jolly LLB 2 that collected Rs. 50.46 cr, Rustom that collected Rs. 50.42 cr, Rowdy Rathore that collected Rs. 48.30 cr, and AirLift that collected Rs. 44.3 cr.
As of now, Kesari continues to run in theatres; however trade experts state that the business of the film that was affected on its opening weekend due to the IPL season might just continue to bear the brunt of the sport. But, predictions state that despite the IPL the business of Kesari will continue to remain more or less stable through the week.
