Box Office: Salman’s Sultan keeps scoring records, Ali Abbas Zafar joins Hirani, Kabir, Victor, Sajid and Farah

BO sultan

As Sultan has now amassed an astonishing Rs. 229.16 crore in just 9 days after bringing in Rs. 9.52 crore more on Thursday, an interesting trend has emerged. Majority of directors who have scored over Rs. 200 crore at the Box Office are the ones who have less than five films to their name.

Yes, that's true!

Picture this - These are the filmmakers who are ruling the roost despite being new to the world of direction:

PK [Rs. 340.8 crore] - Rajkumar Hirani (Fourth film)
Bajrangi Bhaijaan [Rs. 320.34 crore] - Kabir Khan (Fourth film)
Dhoom 3 [Rs. 284.27 crore] - Vijay Krishna Acharya (Second film)
Kick [Rs. 231.85 crore] - Sajid Nadiadwala (First film)
Sultan [Rs. 229.16 crore - Still running] - Ali Abbas Zafar (Second film)
Happy New Year [Rs. 203 crore] - Farah Khan (Fourth film)
3 Idiots [Rs. 202.95 crore] - Rajkumar Hirani (Third film)

Is that an indication of sorts? Are the newer directors finding more patronage amongst the audience? Are they more connected to what is needed to pull audience in theatres?

Let us not forget though that each of these films is also a Khan affair. In these seven films, Aamir Khan has three [PK, Dhoom 3, 3 Idiots], Salman Khan has three [Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, Sultan] and Shah Rukh Khan has one [Happy New Year].

Are these superstars the most accommodating when it comes to working with fresher directors and also the most consistent when it comes to delivering Blockbusters with them?

Point to ponder!
