The Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi reunion on Batwara 1947 has not really set the ball rolling at the box office. According to early estimates, the partition drama has collected in the range of Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 6 crore on Friday, which is much below the industry projections of Rs. 9 crore.
The film has collected around Rs. 3 crore in the top 3 national chains - PVR Inox and Cinepolis- which have contributed 55 per cent to the total business. The start is slow, but the reports seem to be on the positive side, which gives the film some sort of hope to perform well over the weekend.
There is the big Independence Day holiday on Saturday, and that should help the film put up big gains at the box office. If it manages to double up, and sustain at a similar number on Sunday, there is a shot for it to do respectable business, though the success story will be determined by the trend from the weekdays.
