Ajay Devgn's legal notice to YRF

The apparent rift between Ajay Devgn and the Chopra clan has been talked about recently post the sad demise of Yash Chopra, compounded by Ajay Devgn's now show at the producer-director's last rites. However, now we hear that Devgn's company Ajay Devgn Ffilms (ADF), through their lawyers Naik & Naik has served Yash Raj Films (YRF) a notice in the Competition Commission, for using their dominant position in the Bollywood film market to deny ADF due, for their November 13 Diwali release, Son Of Sardaar.

The Competition Commission of India is a body of the Government of India, responsible for enforcing the Competition Act 2002. The act is a clause that prevents activities that have an adverse effect on competition and was established in October 2003. The Act prohibits anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position by enterprises and regulates combinations, which cause or are likely to cause an appreciable adverse effect on competition within India.

Confirming the news, sources say that the said notice was filed on October 18, but it was served to YRF only last evening. Reasoning why ADF sent the notice the source says, "Ajay's company was forced to serve the notice due to the monopolistic practices of YRF." Apparently, prior to the release of Ek Tha Tiger, in August, YRF had used their dominant position in the market, entering into an arrangement with exhibitors saying that they will give them Ek Tha Tiger only if the exhibitors agreed to reportedly give their Diwali release, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, prominence over others.

Whether YRF did use their industry presence and clout to garner a greater opening for Diwali or not, Ajay's team confirms that Son Of Sardaar will go ahead with their scheduled release.
