Few days ago, we introduced you to Zarine Khan, the gorgeous beauty who is making her big screen debut opposite Salman Khan in Veer. While in the earlier interview, Zarine spoke about her background and childhood days, here she sheds light on her character in Veer.
"Veer is an epic love story of a warrior set in the pre-Independence era. I am playing an Indian Princess called Yashodhara. My father's role is played by Jackie sir. I am in love with Veer (played by Salman Khan). In spite of being a princess, Yashodhara doesn't have any airs as such; she is a people's person. She knows what her father is doing is not right but deep down in her heart, she is aware that her father and brother are trapped in the British influence. Also she loves them too much to revolt against them. The film talks about her whole journey from a sweet, innocent little princess to being a 'Yuvraagi' and a mature individual with a lot of authority."
Training and Preparation undertaken
"While starting out, we did a lot of research on Indian princesses of that era and found out that most of them were quite well built and hefty. They used to eat desi ghee. Hence, they weren't skinny and thin like the girls of today. Therefore I had to put on some weight to get into the skin of the character. Luckily for me, putting on weight is very easy. I feasted on my favorite chocolates. Besides putting on weight, I also undertook dancing lessons. As far as acting is concerned, I have learnt everything on the job from my director Mr. Anil Sharma and costars like Salman Khan, Jackie sir, etc."
"The music of Veer is fabulous. Sajid- Wajid have done a great job. My favorite track is 'Meherbaniyaan'. You know…I have to share this really strange thing. I have a friend who has a two year old daughter who simply refuses eat, dress-up or even to go to pre-school unless she listens to 'Salaam Aaya'. Her father is fed up because he has to search for the songs of Veer on TV early in the morning. Even her mother says that the song is played at least 50 times in their house. It feels heartening to know that the music is being appreciated so much."
The 'Veer' Experience
"Being a part of Veer has been awesome…it was a major learning experience. Difficult to put in words, the kind of training I have got being part of this film. My doing this film was something completely unplanned but somewhere destiny has played its part in my life and I am thankful that I have got such a launch pad."
Future plan of action
"I haven't signed any new films as of now. There are talks happening but I don't really want to rush into things before the release of Veer."
Directors on my wish-list
"I have just started my innings in Bollywood so there is no one particular director that I would like to work with. I would like to work with all of them. Rather than me choosing them, I think they should choose me based on my performance in Veer."
"Everyday on the sets of Veer was a learning experience. Everybody was really helpful and patient with me considering I am a newcomer.
However, strange as it may sound I was quite accident-prone on the sets. Something or the other used to happen with me every day. On one occasion, I had quite a nasty fall while running for one of the scenes as my legs got entangled in the long gowns that I was wearing. On another occasion, my wig caught fire and the whole unit came to rescue. Yet another instance happened during the shooting of the 'Salaam Aaya' song, when we were dancing, Salman had to spin Lisa and Geeta for a shot and Lisa ended up stamping my toe quite badly and my toe nail came out. Initially, I used to be angry at these things but later on the same situations seemed hilarious. After a while people started speculating on what is going to happen today with Zarine."
Lisa Lazarus
"Both Lisa and I were newcomers so there was never any sense of insecurity or competition amongst us. Lisa is a sweet girl and we had a good time working together."
Working with Anil Sharma
"Anil sir is a very good teacher. He used to sit with me and explain things patiently. Even when I told him I have understood the scene, he wouldn't let me go till he felt that I had understood it completely .Whatever emotions I have been able to portray in Veer is thanks to him."
