After last week’s release JUDWAA 2 taking off to a flying start, all eyes have been on the Saif Ali Khan starrer Chef which is a remake of the Jon Favreau film by the same name. But will the Indianized version of the Hollywood flick work at the box office or, will it like so many other remakes bite the dust is the question.
Reports suggest that CHEF despite the promotions and hype surrounding the film has opened on a rather slow note. In fact, occupancy rates during morning shows have been pegged at approximately 10-15%. While CHEF that has released across 1570 screens is expected to pick up over evening and night shows, the previous release JUDWAA 2 starring Varun Dhawan has opened on a much better note on its second Friday running. Simultaneously, from this week’s Hollywood releases viz. BLADE RUNNER 2049 and VICTORIA & ABDUL, while the first has opened on a decent note and is expected to grow, the second which features Ali Fazal faces an uphill task at the domestic box office.
On the whole, CHEF is expected to rake in approximately Rs. 3-4 cr on its opening day and will have to rely on positive word of mouth. On the other hand JUDWAA 2 that still continues to run, while at the same time giving competition to the newer releases is expected to rake in approximately Rs. 18 cr over its second weekend in theatres.
