Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra's multi-starrer comedy, Thank God has taken a slow start at the box office. According to early estimates, Thank God is looking to collect in the range of Rs. 8 to 9 crores, which means that the opening is in the same range as Raksha Bandhan and Jugjugg Jeeyo.
This is a rather slow start for a film that's releasing in the Post Diwali period, but the makers would be hoping to trend well going forward and make up for the opening day numbers. The film has done well in expected pockets like Gujarat and Rajasthan, as these are the main centers for comedy film films in India. Mumbai too was decent, but the issue for Thank God was in the North Indian belt.
The numbers up North were dismal and this slow start makes it very important for Thank God to record a second day which is more or less equal to the opening day to have things rolling in its favor through the festive season.
The final figure can be higher or lower depending on how well the film has done in the single screens, but the initial data suggests just about an average start in the mass belts, despite the post-Diwali benefit. The initial response to Thank God seems to be poised towards the positive side and this is an encouraging signal for starters, but we shall know the exact word of mouth based on tomorrow's trend.
