Akshay Kumar's Ram Setu has taken an average start at the box office in India, falling a little short of industry expectations. According to early estimates, Ram Setu has collected in the range of Rs. 13 to 14 crores, which is lower than the conservative industry expectation of Rs. 17 crores.
The movie had a negligible advance but has highly benefited from the post-Diwali factor, as a large section of the walk-in audience preferred to watch Ram Setu. The initial response from the audience and the trade is mixed and it's the hold in collections on Wednesday that will give us an idea about how Ram Setu will fare in the long run. For the film to have a shot at Rs. 100 crores in the long run, a drop of less than 25 percent is a must.
Ram Setu has collected around Rs. 6.75 crores in the three national chains and it’s the mass belt that has helped the film come closer to the Rs. 14 crore mark on the opening day. The actuals in the morning can be marginally higher or lower too depending on the final figures in non-national multiplexes and single screens, but this seems to be the ideal day-one range for the action adventure.
It's an average opening and the numbers should have been better by about 20 percent given that the film has released on the biggest holiday of the year, but yet, it is a better opening than what the advance booking suggested. The hold or drop in collections tomorrow will decide the fate of Ram Setu.
