Ram Setu has taken the biggest opening for an Akshay Kumar starrer in 2022. In a year full of unpredictability when a lot of calculations and predictions have gone for a toss, Ram Setu has taken a start of Rs. 15.50 crores*. With this, it has also emerged as Akshay Kumar's best of the year as it has surpassed Bachchhan Paandey opening day numbers of Rs. 13.25 crores.
Though the film has released on Diwali, it isn't the kind of film which belongs to the kind of genre that usually opens big during this festive season, say Housefull 4. That film had taken a start of Rs. 19.08 crores back in 2019 but then it was a full-on comedy entertainer and very importantly, an offering from a hit franchise. In the case of Ram Setu, it is far more serious in appeal and also has a more class-appealing subject. Hence, it was actually nice to see numbers trickle in from certain mass centers as well, something that will help the film keep collecting this week.
From here, the film should sustain itself today and tomorrow because that will then allow the stage for further growth over the weekend. The Abhishek Sharma-directed film has seen decent to good reviews coming its way and the good part is that it hasn't been disliked by anyone. In such a scenario, there is always a good possibility that a film will have sustained collections and that's what Ram Setu would be aiming for as well.
