After a drop of 40% on Friday, Spider Man: No Way Home was back on track on its third day as the film raked in collections in the range of Rs. 24.50 to 26 crore taking the three day total in the range of Rs. 78 to 80 crore. The film has shown a universal jump across the board with Mumbai and Delhi being the top gainers.
The jump on Saturday was expected as this is the day when the multiplex audience steps out in big numbers, particularly towards the evening and late night shows. The estimates do suggest that the movie has recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2021 by surpassing Sooryavanshi, which collected around Rs. 77 crore.
The biz is expected to jump a little further on Sunday and the four day extended weekend of Spider Man: No Way Home will be in the range of Rs. 105 to 110 crore. These are simply fantastic numbers for a film releasing on a non-holiday weekend. The four day weekend would have been higher by at-least 15% if not for the 50% occupancy cap in Maharashtra.
The film is running a one horse race in the IMAX property by recording near 100% occupancy on this big screen experience on all three days across the nation on the 11 operational screens. The biz of Spider Man should be an eye opener for the Hindi film industry as nothing apart from Sooryavanshi has managed to get things rolling. Right from Roohi to Mumbai Saga, Bell Bottom, Bunty Aur Babli 2, Thalaivii, Satyameva Jayate 2, Antim and Tadap have been sheer disappointments.
What puts perspective to the opening of the above mentioned disappointment is the fact that an unconventional film like Pushpa has taken an opening of Rs. 3.30 crore in the Hindi belts with no promotions despite facing a strong opponent like Spider Man: No Way Home. The Pushpa opening (Hindi Dubbed) has come on half the show count of all the Bollywood releases in Hindi circuits. What makes it even bigger is the fact that it was the first Allu Arjun film to be released in Hindi too.
The opening day footfalls of Pushpa were higher than most of the Bollywood releases this year, outside of Sooryavanshi, as it was second only to Antim, by a small margin, and to note, Antim was riding on a far bigger face value due to Salman Khan's presence.
