Back in 2018-2019, Ayushmann Khurrana was on a roll and delivered back-to-back hits. In fact he scored three centuries on the trot - Badhaai Ho, Dream Girl and Bala. In 2020, his Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan was one of the few films that made moolah before COVID-19 struck. Later, his Gulabo Sitabo turned out to be the first film to take an OTT plunge, before it became a norm for over 20 notable films to follow.
Now that theatres are open again, his Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is the first feel good film to arrive in theatres. Otherwise Sooryavanshi, Antim - The Final Truth, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Tadap have all boasted of heavy dose of drama but then this Abhishek Kapoor directed film is meant to be lighthearted. Moreover, Vaani Kapoor is playing a part that has never before been enacted by a notable leading lady on screen, especially in Bollywood. All of these factors make the film special.
Had this been pre-pandemic times, the film could have comfortably opened in Rs. 8-10 crores range. However, this is a different era and hence, one needs to reset the expectations. In this scenario, even a start of Rs. 4-5 crores would be good enough to give a kick-start to the film. As long as these numbers are met, the stage would be set for Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui to grow further over the weekend.
