Over the years, Rajkummar Rao has been hailed as a talented actor. There has never been any doubt around that. However, his solo starrers haven’t really seen any notable opening ever. Shahid, Citylights, Trapped, Behen Hogi Teri – None of these have really set the Box Office on fire. However, when seen as a part of a package affair (most recently been Bareilly Ki Barfi!), his performance has stood out. This has indeed allowed the young actor to find good traction amongst the audience.
No wonder, with Newton riding entirely on his shoulders, one expects the biggest opening day ever for a Rajkummar Rao solo affair. The makers [Eros, Aanand L. Rai, Drishyam] have promoted the film smartly by focusing on quality instead of quantity. Response amongst the elite has been positive for the film so far and those who have watched it in the various film festivals have positive things to say as well. Though the film is an offbeat affair, it has a small market which is interested in such genre and that could well ensure that theatrically there is some sort of traction that it gets.
A start of Rs. 1 crore would be actually fair for Newton as it is entirely a word of mouth film which could well have long legs to perform if the content is picked up by well by the audience. One just hopes that this actually turns out to be the case as well.
