After a wait of around six months, John Abraham‘s Parmanu – The Pokhran Story is finally gearing up for release. The film was mired in controversies for a few weeks when there was a tussle between John Abraham and KriArj Entertainment. However, all got sorted a couple of weeks back and this is when the decision was taken around the eventual release date. Nonetheless, all is well that ends well, what with the promo making the right impression and now the film seeing a solo release for itself.
While the film boasts of an interesting subject, from the audience pull perspective the entire onus is on John Abraham. Yes, there is Diana Penty and also Boman Irani in the film. However, from the star-power perspective it is John Abraham who has the entire weight of the film on his shoulders. He has been around for over 15 years now and while he has seen highs as well as lows, of late he has tasted good success when it comes to muti-starrers [Welcome Back, Dishoom] and that too across different genres. As a solo lead he has seen appreciation for his action [Force 2, Rocky Handsome] but big success is awaited.
One waits to see if Parmanu – The Pokhran Story ends this wait since it is in the same genre as his Madras Cafe, one of his better solo lead affairs. As for the opening number, he has been clocking Rs. 5-6 crore on a consistent note when he is the sole pulling factor. If Parmanu – The Pokhran Story brings in such numbers, it would actually be quite good. However given the fact that the film had just a couple of weeks window for promotion and the subject too is not that universal to bring in massive opening footfalls from Friday itself, a starting point of Rs. 3-4 crore would be fine as well before word of mouth pulls it through.
This is going to be yet another film this season where the eventual content would decide the long run in theaters and for that director Abhishek Sharma indeed has a job in hand.
