The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial venture Padmaavat that featured Deepika Padukone playing the role of Rani Padmavati released a week back. The film which also featured Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, hit screens a week ago amidst high security. Despite the situation surrounding the film, and the fact that it did not see a release in certain regions Padmaavat has been doing well at the box office.
In this box office report we take a look at the opening week collections of Padmaavat while comparing the same to Deepika Padukone’s previous releases. Collecting Rs. 166.50 cr Padmaavat has become Deepika’s highest opening week grosser surpassing the collections of her previous release Happy New Year that had collected Rs. 157.57 cr. Apart from this the opening week business of Padmaavat has also been better than Deepika Padukone’s other releases like Chennai Express that collected Rs. 156.7 cr, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani that collected Rs. 107.61 cr, Bajirao Mastani that collected Rs. 86.15 cr, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela that collected Rs. 82.15 cr, Race 2 that collected Rs. 76.1 cr, Cocktail that collected Rs. 54 cr, Tamasha that collected Rs. 53.46 cr, and Housefull that collected Rs. 52.30 cr.
Currently with little to no competition from other releases, Padmaavat that still enjoys the audience’s favour is expected to continue its dominating run at the box office. In fact, advance predictions state that the film is likely to enter the Rs. 200 crore club by the end of its second weekend.
