Mohenjo Daro has suffered a bad run at the Box Office in its Week One. The film collected just 51.18 crore in its first week and that is low by all standards, be it the star power of Hrithik Roshan or the scale at which Ashutosh Gowariker had set it up for. The film just couldn't escalate over the weekend and then dropped big time during the weekdays. Even if there was some element of positive word of mouth that gave it a chance after the weekend, the pull on the other extreme was strong too and that turned the tide against the historic affair.
One can well see the kind of fate that Mohenjo Daro has suffered when compared to much smaller films like Baaghi [59.72 crore] and Dishoom [53.34 crore] that have collected much bigger in their first week. In its lifetime run, Mohenjo Daro will cross Udta Punjab [60 crore] but would stay below the next big film, Dishoom [70 crore]. That would set the film at No. 10 of 2016 grossers (which is hardly a feat to celebrate) but only momentary as one more biggie and Mohenjo Daro would only come slipping down.
From a film that came with a promise of being at least a 150 crore entertainer, this is a big time commercially disappointing result. While Hrithik Roshan has Kaabil coming in early next year, the actor simply needs to have at least a couple of films every year for next two years at the least. He has a huge fan base that deserves better, and also more of him. As for Ashutosh Gowariker, one waits to see what he makes next. Will it be a magnum opus again, or a film which is quicker, relatively smaller and more commercial?
