Great Grand Masti has turned out to be a mega disaster at the Box Office. The film had a shockingly low Friday and then there was no recovery whatsoever during the weekend. The collections are very poor at Rs. 8 crore* and frankly, this was the bare minimum that was expected for the film on the first day of its release. In fact even in the worst case scenario (when piracy struck), the film was expected to fetch at least Rs. 6 crore on its opening day and enjoy a respectable weekend of Rs. 20 crore. However, with such poor numbers, it now risks being out of theatres in one week flat.
Back in 2004 when Masti, first in the franchise, had released, it had collected Rs. 21 crore in its final tally. To think of it, now the third in the series by Indra Kumar won't even reach there. This has never happened before for any of the franchise affairs but Great Grand Masti has set this unfortunate record. It would now be very brave of the makers to actually even think of coming up with fourth in the series.
Meanwhile, Sultan has enjoyed a more than decent second weekend. With Rs. 15.18 crore more coming in, the film now stands at Rs. 263.23 crore. By crossing Rs. 250 crore, it has now set further milestone of being the fastest ever to reach there. The film is continuing to see audiences step in and while this could possibly be the last of the records that it scores, the fact remains that it has managed to keep the Box Office alive. The month of July has fetched a big success and now it is time for Rustom and Mohenjo Daro to keep the flag high for Bollywood in the month of August as well.
