Alia Bhatt has retained her status as the top leading actresses amongst the fresh lot, what with Dear Zindagi turning out to be her third success in a row. She played a good supporting role in Kapoor & Sons but then was pivotal to Udta Punjab. Now Dear Zindagi revolves entirely around her and she has proven her mettle once again with the film which is continuing to rake in good numbers. With Rs. 3.25 crore more coming in, the film has accumulated Rs. 44 crore so far. This has now set the stage for yet another Alia Bhatt film to cover a good distance.
Collections of Alia Bhatt films in 2016:
Kapoor & Sons - Rs. 73.3 crore (lifetime)
Udta Punjab - Rs. 60 crore (lifetime)
Dear Zindagi - Rs. 44 crore (6 days, still running)
The film is all set to cross Udta Punjab, though Kapoor & Sons seems difficult.
Kapoor & Sons was powered by the presence of Rishi Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan, whereas Udta Punjab too had the star power of Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Disanjh. Now Dear Zindagi too had a great pump in of collections over the weekend, courtesy Shah Rukh Khan. That has given Alia Bhatt a good enough platform in each of the films to make her presence felt in a big way. That said, she has leveraged this platform to the fullest as well to deliver goods.
Now her next release is Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya where she has Varun Dhawan for company and the film is bound to be bigger than them all. She is all set to kick-start her next with Ranbir Kapoor which is a Karan Johar production and has Ayan Mukherji as the director. One waits to see if she squeezes in another film as well in the interim period. Clearly, she is on a roll!
