Overseas: ‘Metro’ fails in U.K., U.S.A., Australia

By Bollywood Hungama

Now this has come as a rude shock! After emerging the winner in the reality show ‘Big Brother’, Shilpa Shetty’s popularity in the Overseas territory, especially in U.K., increased ten-fold. That explains why UTV decided to release the Shilpa starrer METRO on a big scale in the international territory.

The producers/distributors not only spent a huge amount to promote the film, but also organized multi-city premieres to herald the arrival of Shilpa’s new film. Unfortunately, the tremendous promotion didn’t translate into tremendous figures.

METRO has proved a failure in U.K. [very, very surprising] and also in U.S.A. and Australia, the three major markets. In fact, in U.K., where the film was released with an impressive number of prints, the opening weekend screen average is lower than several supreme disasters such as NEHLLE PE DEHLLA [average: £ 1,479], SHAKALAKA BOOM BOOM [£ 1,964] and KYA LOVE STORY HAI [£ 1,547]. Shocking, isn’t it?

In the U.S. too, METRO has been rejected big time. The opening weekend figures are very sad. In Australia too, METRO has emerged a fiasco.

The second release of the week, GOOD BOY BAD BOY, is a washout in U.K. In fact, it ranks amongst the lowest openers of the year [in the august company of TRAFFIC SIGNAL, JUST MARRIED and BIG BROTHER]. Need we add more?

Weekend: May 11 – 13, 2007.
