As anticipated, FAST & FURIOUS 6 bulldozed the Hindi opponents that stood in its way. The sixth installment of this Hollywood biggie embarked on a furious start across the length and breadth of the nation on Thursday [previews] and maintained its heroic pace all through the weekend. The two significant Hindi releases, ISHKQ IN PARIS and HUM HAI RAAHI CAR KE, didn't have the stamina or endurance to withstand the ferocious opponent and failed to garner a face-saving total in the process.
Is FAST & FURIOUS 6 the sole reason why these two Hindi films failed to perform? Not really! The IPL semi-final and final, held on Friday and Sunday, respectively, wiped off whatever hopes these two Hindi films may have had of enjoying an eventful weekend. Going back a bit, ISHKQ IN PARIS and HUM HAI RAAHI CAR KE had failed to create the required buzz prior to their release. The sole hope was [positive] word of mouth, which was lacking in both the cases. Hence, the growth in business was missing!
Having said that, the next two weeks [31 May and 7 June] are expected to witness an upswing in film business, with biggies like YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI and YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2 eyeing a big chunk of the market share. The two biggies are piping hot within and outside the film fraternity and are expected to gross big numbers. Talking specifically of YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, Ranbir Kapoor enjoys tremendous popularity amongst the paying public thanks to his choice of films. In addition, the pairing of Ranbir-Deepika, the popularity of Aditya Roy Kapur soon after the super success of AASHIQUI 2, Ayan Mukerji's credibility after WAKE UP SID, the trendy soundtrack, the right marketing and KJo's brand value… all these factors combined together will ensure a fantabulous start for YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI in India and Overseas.
