A few observations…
It's like a baby taking its first steps. The new year has just commenced and I see it with a lot of optimism and hope. If 2007 was the year of comedies, 2008 will see action films staging a comeback. By action, I don't mean the dagger-sword-crude bombs kind of action movies, but international-level stunts.
At the end of the day, of course, the viewer would be thirsting for a good story. That's the mandatory factor, the rest is paraphernalia.
Bollywood is the flavor of the season and not just doctors, engineers and politicians are looking at this thriving industry, but also well-known industrialists are forging alliances and announcing joint ventures.
The latest is, the multiplex owners are looking at starting movies. That's the step in the right direction, for the exhibitors interact with both, the content providers [producers/distributors] and content watchers [viewers] day after day. Await the official announcements!
The award season has begun and the next few weeks will witness a plethora of award ceremonies, with stars attending the event to either carry home a statuette or a fat cheque for performing at the award nite.
I genuinely believe that actors benefit the maximum from these award nites. But does an award really help in escalating your status in the eyes of the viewer? I doubt!
I sincerely feel that Rajkumar Santoshi will stage a comeback with HALLA BOL. Santoshi is back to the GHAYAL, DAMINI, GHATAK kind of movies. It makes a statement. It makes you think. It has a lot of meat, in its second hour specifically.
Santoshi, meanwhile, is leaving for Greece to finalize an international music composer for his film on Samrat Ashok. Also, he's planning to start a film called LAHORE.
