How time flies! It seems like the year 2013 had commenced only recently... And we are in the month of July already. The first six months of the year haven't been the type that would make you jump with joy, but the year did witness a number of unconventional films -- also those without A-listers -- clicking in a big way. Like every year, the best is reserved for the second half of the year, with Eid, Diwali and Christmas releases expected to give the business the much-required fillip. Let's hope it pours at the BO this year too!

GHANCHAKKAR did not set the box-office ablaze, despite the presence of Emraan and Vidya. What surprises me is its lacklustre performance in the mass belt. Emraan enjoys tremendous following amidst that strata of movie-going audience and it is this strata that did not contribute much to its business. As an actor, Emraan has been experimenting with diverse genres such as SHANGHAI, EK THI DAAYAN and GHANCHAKKAR, but the hoi polloi seems to love Emraan in specific roles only. Could that be one of the reasons why these films did not fare as expected?

Why are so many films releasing in the forthcoming weeks? Any specific reason? What I don't understand is the tearing hurry to announce the release date of the film and expecting theatre management/s to toe the line. With at least one/two significant films releasing week after week and holdover titles -- the ones that work -- not ready to quit the shows/screens, what will be the fate of several films being released without the backing of studios or without any significant name attached to them? It's time to think rationally!
