It was the mother of all parties Amitabh Bachchan's birthday bash cum launch of A.B. Corp.'s first film RANVEER was a rocking affair. The guest list was truly impressive. The cr? de la cr? of the social and political fields rubbed shoulders with filmland personalities. But this is not an insight into who wore what, ate and drank how much... This piece is about Big B and his unpretentious self, which surfaced yet again on that night. It has been observed time and again, more so within the film industry, that the moment you realise you've attained success, you bid goodbye to humility and modesty. But Bachchan is an exception. His birthday celebrations bore testimony to the fact. The icon was personally present at the entrance of the plush hotel along with Amar Singh, receiving each and every guest invited to the party. This could've been done by one of his subordinates, but Bachchan being Bachchan decided to have a warm handshake with each of the invitees. And barely did you step in the hotel, Mrs. Jaya Bachchan and daughter Shweta welcomed the guests, thanking them for making it to the celebrations. Seemed like the entire hotel had been booked for the event. While the lobby was the venue for the mahurat shot of A.B. Corp.'s first film RANVEER, the celebrations took place in the massive basement hall. This is no celebration, Bachchan spoke on the occasion, My father [Harivanshrai Bachchan] passed away this year, so celebrations can wait for the next year. Besides unveiling the plans of A.B. Corp. by launching RANVEER [Big B, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi] in association with Keshu's D.M.S. Films, Bachchan also spoke of how he'd gone through trying times before he bounced back. I had debts to the tune of Rs. 90 crores, my properties were attached, I was jobless I decided to walk down to my friend Yash Chopra's house, asking for work. In a second, he offered me MOHABBATEIN, Bachchan spoke from the heart. To bare his heart to the world, admit defeat, concede failure, accept the responsibility of a failed company... Bachchan did it all that night. His confessions made people realise that they don't make people like him anymore. Amar Singh, Director of A.B. Corp., also spoke from the heart: Amit-ji's journey in life is akin to a 16-reeler-film. After various hardships, the hero emerges victorius in the climax. So has he. A.B. Corp. has taken its first step with RANVEER. Let's hope this sapling grows into a fully-bloomed tree in times to come.
