Pakistani restaurant draws flack for misusing Alia Bhatt’s dialogue from Gangubai Kathiawadi : Bollywood News

A Pakistani restaurant has found its social media handle at the receiving end after netizens found their latest campaign to be in poor taste. In fact, Swing, took to their Instagram handle to share a clip of their latest offer that is aimed at men. However the said off which promotes Men’s’ Monday, has rubbed people the wrong way.

Sharing the video, the official handle of Swing carried the message, “Aja na Raja - what are you waiting for? Swings is calling out all the Raja's out there. Ajao and avail a 25% discount on Men's Monday at Swings!” However, the advertisement received sharp backlash with some even saying that it was ‘depressing’, while others claimed that it was in poor taste to feature Alia Bhatt’s dialogue and scene from Gangubai Kathiawadi.

However, the restaurant defended their advertisement claiming that it was ‘just a concept’ and that they ‘did not mean to hurt sentiments’. In a follow up post defending the said advert, the handle posted yet another image which read, ‘Aray logon, itna dil pe kyun leliya?’ while adding, “Just a concept. We didn't mean to hurt the sentiments of anyone. The movie and this post is based on a concept. Like before, we're open to all and will be serving you with the same love like we always have.”

Not surprisingly, like the earlier post, this too sparked an outrage among social media users, which some asking, to ‘Please improve your sense of humour’, while another user called them out commenting, ‘Associating a highly insensitive topic with a digital marketing campaign and then saying itna dil pe kio lelia? What a typical and shameful act”.

Sadly the tirade did not end there. Instead the restaurant went ahead with a third post, this time featuring the character of Raziabai from Gangubai Kathiawadi. Depicting the image from the film with the test, ‘Raziabai ko bhool gaye kya?’ The caption read, “Gaaliyon ki goonj mein ab taaliyan bajeingi”.

Once again, the restaurant was at the receiving as one user commented, “What you have done is culturally offensive, misogynist, contain copyright infringement and involves illegal celebrity usage!”, while another individual called to boycott the restaurant saying, ‘Kisi ameer baap k betay ka business he hoga ye, jo itni ayaashi say itni ghatiya soch istimaal kar raha hai. Everyone should simply not go to swings. Its as simple as that. Boycott it. Until the owner apologises for their existence and mentality literally.”
