EXCLUSIVE: Pankaj Tripathi confessed that he was so overwhelmed at IIFA with the ovation that he received that he forgot to thank his team and his wife

Pankaj Tripathi is one of the most celebrated actors in this country. At the recently held IIFA 2022 in Abu Dhabi, the actor realized the massive fan following and has received one of the grandest welcome from the audience as he was making his way to the stage to receive his award for the Netflix film Ludo.

Pankaj Tripathi received the Best Supporting actor award at IIFA this year for his role in the Anurag Basu directorial Ludo. While he was making his way to the stage to collect the award, the entire auditorium was echoing with claps as they all stood up to give him a standing ovation for his performance, so much so, that he couldn’t listen what film he won the award for. Speaking about the exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, he said, “Main pahuncha aur log chup nahi ho rahe the. Main bas haath jode khada tha. Instant toh nahi par utarne ke baad realize hua ki yeh prem iss tareeke ka, yeh appreciation bahut adbhut tha, woh bhi Abu Dhabi ke darti pe jahan par wahan ke log rehte hain.” (Transl: I reached the stage and people still continued to clap. I was just standing with folded hands as it was a speechless moment. Not instantly, but after getting down the stage, I was suddenly left wondering that in a place like Abu Dhabi, where people from different communities, I did not expect to receive so much love and appreciation for me.)

He added, “Maine wahi bola ki aapki taaliyon ne meri speech puri kar di hai. Wahi meri speech thi.” (Translation: Their claps were my speech)

He felt a little bad that he couldn’t thank anybody on stage. He stated, “Main, in fact, producer T-Series ko, Anurag dada ko teek se thanks bhi nahi bol paaya. Apne speech ko toh chod hi do. Patni meri baiti thi, maine unka bhi naam nahi liya. Raat ko mujhe yaad aaya aur maine unse pucha, ‘tumhein bura toh nahi laga’. Kyunki woh aur bachhi baiti thi aur maine unhe acknowledge hi nahi kia. Aisa mere liye bhavuk kshan tha, ki main sab kuch bhool chuka tha. (Transl: I, in fact, couldn’t thank producer T-Series, or Anurag dada or even my wife who was sitting right there in front of me. When I remembered about it in the night, I even asked if she felt bad since I did not acknowledge her or even my kid who was sitting with her. It was such an emotional moment for me that I had forgotten everything.)” he concluded.

In fact, a video of him receiving the award on stage was shared by a Pakistani member from the audience on her social media which went on to receive millions of views. Needless to say, Pankaj Tripathi was indeed overwhelmed with the response he received for his award.
