Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram is nearing the end of its run at the box office as the film is all gearing up for an OTT premiere next week. The worldwide collection of the film is approx. Rs. 420 crores in its five-week run at the box office. While it has emerged an all-time grosser in Tamil Nadu, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has hit the century mark in the international belts too.
Vikram is ending its run in Tamil Nadu with a gross total of Rs. 175 crores, which is around Rs. 20 crores higher than the previous record holder in the state, Baahubali – The Conclusion. As far as overseas is concerned, the movie has closed at a collection of Rs. 120 crores. These have been the top 2 contributors for the film followed by Andhra Pradesh and Kerala which collected Rs. 39 crores each.
Karnataka has taken the next spot with a gross of Rs. 25 crores, whereas the North Indian markets have put up a decent total of Rs. 18 crores. It's a historic blockbuster for all the stakeholders, and has been a redemption of sorts for the Tamil Film Industry, which had more or less gone stagnant since the release of Baahubali 2. With Rajinikanth and Ajith films underperforming in the longer run, Tamil cinema was all about Vijay, but now, it's the lion, Kamal Haasan who has taken the charge to deliver a mega blockbuster.
It is going to be an uphill task for any film to challenge the numbers of Vikram in the near future and it might be one film from the director, Lokesh Kanagaraj universe, that might surpass the collections if reception from audience is similar.
