The Karan Malhotra directorial Shamshera was released yesterday to a tepid response from the audience. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor the Yash Raj Films venture has been one of the most talked about and immensely promoted film of recent times. In fact, expectations were that Shamshera would open to a thunderous start. However, despite the immense promotions and hype and the massive 4,350 screen count, the film took off to a less than expected start, managing to draw in just Rs. 10.25 cr. on its opening day.
Now, on its second day reports suggest that the film has seen a further decline in occupancy over morning and early afternoon shows. In fact, Shamshera has recorded lower footfalls in certain territories on its second day as compared to its first day. With morning and early afternoon shows displaying a low-key response, the burden of lifting the film’s collections fall squarely on evening and night shows. Trade predictions state that Shamshera will have to rely heavily on positive word of mouth and spot/ walk in bookings over evening and night shows.
However, going by the current occupancy trends, Shamshera’s Day 2 collections is most likely to drop to single digits. In such case, the film will face a tough time posting a decent overall collections figure in its opening weekend.
