The Karan Malhotra-directed venture Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor was released yesterday. Also featuring Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor the Yash Raj Films venture hit a massive 4350 screens across the domestic market. Coupled with this wide release, Shamshera which has enjoyed immense promotions and hype was expected to take off to a flying start at the box office.
In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Shamshera while comparing the same to Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases. Collecting Rs. 10.25 cr, Shamshera has managed to rank as Ranbir Kapoor’s ninth highest opening day grosser, preceded by his other films like Sanju which collected Rs. 34.75 cr, Besharam which collected Rs. 21.56 cr, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which collected Rs. 19.45 cr, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which collected Rs. 13.3 cr, Tamasha which collected Rs. 10.94 cr, Rockstar which collected Rs. 10.6 cr, Rajneeti which collected Rs. 10.50 cr, and Roy which collected Rs. 10.40 cr. On the other hand, though, Shamshera has managed to outperform Ranbir’s other release Jagga Jasoos which had collected Rs. 9.20 cr.
Going forward, expectations are that the business of Shamshera will continue to see further growth over its opening weekend. In fact, trade predictions state that the film which faces little to no competition at the box office could reach closer to the Rs. 50 cr mark.
