Akshay Kumar's much awaited historical, Samrat Prithviraj, has shown an ordinary trend on Saturday. While the film has gone up by about 15%, it needed to show a big jump especially after the low opening day of Rs. 10.70 crores. According to early estimates, Samrat Prithviraj has collected in the range of Rs. 12.30 to Rs 13.30 crores on its second day.
With this, the two day total of Samrat Prithviraj stands in the vicinity of Rs. 23 crores. It's a costly film and hence the collections are much below the expectations. The film is doing relatively well in the small towns, but the metros are not firing for the historical. Places like Rajasthan, CP, CI are decent, whereas cities like Mumbai, Delhi, West Bengal and even the Southern markets are low.
The movie is now headed towards an opening weekend around the Rs. 38 crore mark, and this would be a low total for a film of this magnitude. The budget of Samrat Prithviraj is upwards of Rs. 200 crores, and there is a long way ahead for the film before it is termed a break even venture. The film has been consistently below Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 by about 35 percent - be it the advance bookings, opening day or the second day - and if this trend continues in the long run too, it well might end 35 percent below the lifetime collection of the Kartik Aaran starrer horror comedy.
Every day is going to be a litmus test for Samrat Prithviraj, and so far, the result on day one and two has not been encouraging, which puts up a bigger challenge for the film for Sunday and the week ahead.
