This Friday sees the release of the biggest film ever to come out of India, RRR. There has been a lot said and heard about the film ever since it was announced. The term magnum opus has been designed for such kind of offerings on the big screen and with SS Rajamouli at the helm of affairs, it is all justified as well.
On a regular day, the Hindi version of the film would have taken an opening in the vicinity of Rs. 15 crores. However, the promotion and marketing of the film has been kick-started and then paused a couple of times owing to the pandemic, and hence the momentum somehow gets disrupted. If not for that, the start would have been momentous. That said, this is still the kind of pan-India release where the Hindi version should ideally take a double-digit start for sure, which is something that has happened only with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and that too after the blockbuster success of the first part.
Here, RRR is not going to play alone. There is competition in the form of The Kashmir Files which, even in its third week, would be akin to a decent mid-budget film with a known star cast to be standing in its way. The Anupam Kher-led film should collect Rs. 6-7 crores for sure on Friday, which means an added distraction for the audience. As a result, a start of Rs. 11-13 crores should be a possibility for the NTR Jr. and Ram Charan starrer. If the evening shows show a miraculous turnaround then a greater number is a possibility but rest assured, the growth over the weekend would be quite good.
