The Salman Khan starrer Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai released in Gujarat on June 27 after having a theatrical run in Maharashtra and Tripura. The action entertainer managed to make it on Eid in cinemas. But due to the deadly second wave of Covid-19, most viewers in India saw the film on ZeePlex or Zee5. Moreover, it released in just 3 cinemas in Tripura in release week and then resumed its run on the big screen a month later. As a result, the collections were not encouraging. Yet, the industry was surprised to see that a small but significant number of people continued to flock to cinemas.
Since June 27, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai has been shown in 3 cinema halls - The Friday Cinema multiplex and Rupam Cinema in Surat, and Amber Cinema in Jamnagar. These 3 theatres decided to continue screening the film from Friday, July 2 as well. While the collections were strictly okay in the first 5 days, the earnings fell further in Week 5. Bollywood Hungama had reported about it when we reported the weekend collections. Several shows were cancelled and this continued on the weekdays as well. The shows which ran also saw poor occupancies. Amber Cinema saw the best footfalls. On Monday, 56 tickets were sold while 22 and 21 tickets were sold on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. On Thursday, as many as 34 viewers turned up to watch Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai.
A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama, “Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai collected around Rs. 4263 on Monday, Rs. 1598 on Tuesday, Rs. 2022 on Wednesday and Rs. 2616 on Thursday. These are approximate figures.” The collections of Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai now stand at Rs. 1,81,389.
In the previous week, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had collected around Rs. 23,300 on the weekdays from these 3 cinemas in Gujarat. This week, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai managed to collect around just Rs. 10,500. This shows the extent of the fall in collections.
Due to the poor performance, Rupam Cinema has discontinued the film from Friday, July 9. The Friday Cinema multiplex now runs only 2 shows while Amber Cinema has decided to play just 1 show of Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai daily. With just 3 shows a day, the collections of Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai in Week 6 will be further down. Sadly, it hasn’t even got a release in other states. It now remains to be seen if it manages to cross the Rs. 2 lakh mark.
An industry insider says, “If you look at the fact that Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai was available on the internet since May 13 and that it was heavily criticized, it’s heartening to see that viewers are still going out to see the film. But think from the point of view of the exhibitors. To have just 20 or 30 people coming to see a film in a day can make it difficult for a theatre owner to sustain.”
