With a distinct local flavour to it, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund saw better collections on Saturday as Rs. 2.10 crores came in. Of course, a major share of this number has come from Maharashtra and that was expected too due to heavily localized appeal. In fact, if not for Amitabh Bachchan spearheading the effort, even this number would have been difficult since the film can't be expected to find a larger audience across the country. This isn't as because the film is based in slums and that further restricts a good chunk of the audience.
So far, the film has collected Rs. 3.60 crores and it should come close to the 7 crores mark before the first weekend is through. A little while back Badhaai Do released and that film started on a similar note at Rs. 1.65 crores and then gathered Rs. 7.82 crores before the first weekend came to a close. Now, Jhund too is following a similar trajectory and one waits to see if in the first week it manages to gather Rs. 12.60 crores, as was the case with the Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar starrer. That film had held up well on Monday though due to Valentine's Day.
Director Nagraj Popatrao Manjule had created history with his last release Sairat which had emerged as a blockbuster. Now with Jhund, it would be good as long as the film manages to be a coverage affair.
