Tumhari Sulu has collected Rs. 12.87 crore over the weekend. This number is better than what Vidya Balan‘s last release Begum Jaan had accumulated in its first three days [Rs. 11.48 crore]. There is a difference here though. That film had started at a much higher level [Rs. 3.94 crore] when compared to Tumhari Sulu [Rs. 2.87 crore] which pretty much conveys that the word of mouth of the Suresh Triveni directed film is much better.
Key for the film would now be to hold well during the weekdays so that numbers come as close to Rs. 20 crore milestone as possible before the first week is through. There isn’t much of a competition though in week to come since Firangi, Tera Intezar and Julie 2 are all small to mid-budget films. Still, collectively between them around 1500 screens are set to go which means Tumhari Sulu would need to be strong enough to warrant a good screen count in the second week as well.
Nonetheless, for Vidya Balan the film has turned out to be some sort of respite since there had been a series of disappointments before this, either critically, commercially or both. However, Tumhari Sulu has managed good critical acclaim for sure and now a stable run for next few days would ensure a commercial success as well.
