Four months of 2016 have already passed and we have seen multiple films hitting screens every week. However, only a few of the releases have managed to leave a mark on our memory and the box office too. In this special report, we at Bollywood Hungama, do some number crunching to lay out the Top 5 Worldwide Grossers of 2016.
Not surprisingly it is the Akshay Kumar- Nimrat Kaur starrer Airlift that occupies the sweet spot at the top of the list at no. 1 as the Highest Worldwide Grosser of 2016 collecting Rs. 225 cr. In fact, the film which released on Republic Day is the only movie of 2016 which has crossed 200 cr. mark in terms of Worldwide box office collections. While the list of films that have crossed this mark contains around 25 releases till date, Airlift has managed to enter this highly coveted, exclusive and prestigious club.
On the other hand, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Fan that released a few weeks ago, though managing to feature in the list this year in second place, fails to cross the Rs. 200 cr mark, ending its run with total collections being pegged at Rs. 183 cr. Unlike Airlift, Fan having exhausted its run at the box office due to dismal performance, is unlikely to enter the list of films that have made the worldwide Rs. 200 cr. mark.
Though, SRK's most recent release Fan, does not manage to enter the list, the actor's previous releases like Ra.One and MNIK too had grossed Rs. 200 cr in worldwide collections.
