When a film's weekend total is good enough to be compared with the lifetime total of other major biggies (which by the way are super hits or blockbusters as well), you know that it is a big league game in play here. This is pretty much the case for Sultan which now has gone way beyond breaking of conventional records (biggest day, weekend, way or lifetime). Instead, it is the pace with which it is minting money, courtesy the lethal combo of star-power and content coming into picture, which is making this Ali Abbas Zafar a favorite amongst the audience.
This was demonstrated in the five day long weekend that didn't just see collections in the excess of Rs. 30 crore on each of the days (another record!) but also hit a milestone of going past the Rs. 180 crore mark. Standing at Rs. 180.36 crore, the film has now reached such high levels that it is being compared with the biggest of All Time Grossers.
In fact in just five days, this Yash Raj flick is now knocking the doors of Top-10 Grossers of all time, a feat it would accomplish before tonight. This is how the other biggies stand:
PK - Rs. 340.8 crore
Bajrangi Bhaijaan - Rs. 320.34 crore
Dhoom 3 - Rs. 284.27 crore
Kick - Rs. 231.85 crore
Chennai Express - Rs. 227.13 crore
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - Rs. 210.16 crore
Happy New Year - Rs. 203 crore
3 Idiots - Rs. 202.95 crore
Ek Tha Tiger - Rs. 198.78 crore
Sultan - Rs. 195 crore+ (expected by tonight)
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - Rs. 188.57 crore
Bajirao Mastani - Rs. 184.2 crore
Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer would comfortably go past Bajirao Mastani and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani tonight and hence would find itself at the No. 10 position of All Time Grossers.
As for the film's standing amongst the other biggies in the list, it is anybody's guess around how much higher up would Sultan finally find itself before the (extended) week comes to a close. Blockbuster!
