This has never happened before. However, Salman Khan's Sultan has re-written history, what with more than Rs. 30 crores coming in for fourth day in succession. After Wednesday [Rs. 36.54 crores], Thursday [Rs. 37.30 crores] and Friday [Rs. 31.50 crores], now Saturday was phenomenal too for the Ali Abbas Zafar directed film as it brought in Rs. 37.10 crores more.
This is truly unbelievable as the film is just not slowing down despite being in theaters for four days now. Agreed that conventionally speaking, films see some escalation on Saturdays. However, a couple of points that have to be noted is that a) Sultan is anyways playing at a very high run rate and b) Saturday was its fourth day at the Box Office. This only reflects the fact that the film has been universally liked/loved by the audience and has gone beyond just being THE Salman Khan show. The superstar did his job to pull audience into theaters and now the film is speaking the language of its own.
With the film's collections standing at Rs. 142.62 crores, it is now already 2016's biggest Bollywood grosser after surpassing Airlift [Rs. 129 crores] and Housefull 3 [Rs. 109 crores]. Though one pretty much saw this coming after the opening day, the ease with which this has happened is stuff that dreams are made of. For Yash Raj Films, these are 'achche din' indeed and they would be pretty much betting on much higher numbers for their Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer.
While there are no more debates around whether the film would go past the Rs. 250 crore mark, the buzz in the trade circles is that Sultan now has a real chance to take a shot at the Rs. 300 crore milestone. Since it is a given that the film would be more than half way through this number before stepping into the weekdays, by the general notion of a biggie doubling its weekend business during its lifetime run, Sultancould go comfortably past the triple century mark.
