Two huge grossers, and with budgets that are as contrasting as they get. RRR is a multi-crore extravaganza where budget being floated around is in Rs. 300-400-500 crores range. No one other than the producers would know how much exactly went into the making of the visual extravaganza. Ok the other hand The Kashmir Files has been made in mere Rs. 15 crores which is just around 5% of RRR, even if one considers the bare minimum budget of Rs. 300 crores. Still, the results are just the same.
Decades down the line when history would be revisited, the clash of RRR (Hindi) and The Kashmir Files, albeit separated by two weeks, would be spoken about since both eventually ended up delivering similar results. Their end outcome would be Rs. 250-260 crores each and while RRR (Hindi) has collected Rs. 208.59 crores* so far, The Kashmir Files currently stands at Rs. 249.25 crores.
What matters is that for the film industry, this could well be a case study where two movies as different from each other as chalk and cheese have arrived in the same time period, catered to altogether contrasting audiences and still achieved exactly the same results. Of course, RRR being a major biggie needed collections from the south versions as well to get into a profitable zone while The Kashmir Files got into that zone after the first weekend itself, hence emerging as an all-time blockbuster in quick time.
One just hope that the trend continues for big as well as small budgeted films in weeks and months to come as well.
